What is One Good Thing?

One Good Thing is a for profit business supporting social enterprises across the world. We believe that social enterprises offer an effective way out of poverty for millions of people in the world and can help to solve many of the environmental issues that the world is facing. We are not a charity.

Social Enterprise? What’s That?

A social enterprise or social business is defined as a business that has specific social objectives that serve its primary purpose. Social enterprises seek to maximize profits while maximizing benefits to society and the environment. Their profits are principally used to fund social programs.

Are you a charity?

No, a charity is generally funded through donations/grants and distributes money to good causes. One Good Thing are a for profit business supporting social enterprises across the world.

So, you make a profit?

Not yet but theoretically, yes. Social enterprises are designed to make a profit whilst supporting good causes. We are a new business so are not making any profit yet but we hope to make a living out of it at some point. Our belief is that social enterprises offer an effective solution for many of the issues we see in the world today.

How do you choose the products on One Good Thing?

We spend a lot of time and effort selecting the right partners. Fundamentally, any partners must meet these key requirements:

  • Must have a clear, transparent and demonstrable social or environmental impact.
  • Must be a high quality product that someone would be proud to own regardless of any cause that is supported.
  • Must be an established business and able to distribute internationally.

Why are your products so expensive?!

Fair question – We won’t have the cheapest bags or headphones or jewellery you find on the internet today, here’s why:

We cannot and do not wish to compete on price with organisations whose primary goal is to make things as cheap as possible. We put a lot of effort into choosing our suppliers. We make sure that the people who actually make the item are paid a fair and living wage. This is a big part of what makes the product ethical. Also, in most cases, you buying the product involves some of the cost going to a project that directly helps the environment or the local community (planting a tree, giving a school pack, an eye test, a hearing aid etc) all these costs factor into the price you pay.

Perhaps a better question would be, why are the other brands so cheap. What are they paying the people who actually make the item? How are they affecting the planet? What projects are they investing in? What is the real cost of my cheap bag?


Do I have to create an account in order to buy?

No, you can purchase as a guest. However, if you are a returning customer, signing up will provide a more efficient process as your details are saved from previous purchases.

How can I change or cancel my order?

If you’ve changed your mind or made a mistake with your order, don’t panic, we can probably sort it out. Just reply to us on your confirmation email or at [email protected] and we’ll get back to you within 12 hours. If you cancel your order, any refund will be checked and processed within 24 hours of the confirmation email.

Can I have items sent to someone else as a gift?

Yes. If you want to send your items to someone as a gift you can use their address as the delivery address for the order (if you want it to go straight to them). All items are gift wrapped as standard and personal messages can be created. Just write the required message in the ‘notes’ section of the online order form.

What countries do you ship to?

We are based in UAE but can deliver worldwide. We haven’t turned down an order yet because of the delivery location so just try us. If there’s a reason we can’t do it, we’ll let you know.

How much does delivery cost?

If your total order is over AED 500 and is being delivered within UAE, delivery is free. If your total order is less than AED 500 or the delivery address is outside UAE, we have a flat fee of AED 20 (£4) for each supplier. So if your order contains several items from one supplier, you are only charged one shipping fee. If your order contains items from 2 suppliers, the AED 20 charge is applied twice, etc.

How can I track my order?

Once your order has been shipped, we’ll send you an email with a link and an estimated shipping date so you can track your order.

Where is my stuff?

Delivery times to UAE is normally within 2 working day. Internationally our shipping times are 5-7 days. If your estimated delivery date has passed and you haven’t received your order, please get in touch with us on [email protected] with your order number and the date the item was purchased. We will follow it up for you.

Returns and Refunds

How can i return my items? Is it free to return?

If you need to return something to us, please get in touch with us on [email protected]. We will be able to provide a return label which can be sent free of charge.

What happens if I receive a faulty or incorrect item?

It’s rare but it does happen. We aim to sort out any faulty or missing items straight away. As soon as you discover a problem, please email [email protected] with the issue and we will replace the item accordingly or offer a full refund.

What if I just don’t like it once I see it?

Again, rare but it has happened. No problem, just let us know and we’ll do whatever we can to change/swap/refund or whatever. 

Are all items available for return?

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging. It must be within 14 calendar days of purchase. If you would like to get an exchange rather than a refund, please get in touch with us on [email protected]. We will be able to advise you with your next steps.


What payment methods do you accept?

We currently accept all major debit and credit cards.

What about Cash On Delivery?

In the UAE, yes. Otherwise no, sorry.

Are my credit card details safe with you?

Yes, absolutely, all payments go through a secure payment gateway, we do not store or even see your card details and do not share any of the details you provide.

What currencies do you accept?

We currently accept AED and GBP.
